Story 2: On Monday, 9/2/2024, at approximately 1:30 AM, officers were dispatched to a bar located in the 420 block of E. Texas Avenue in reference to reports of a male choking a female in the parking lot. Additional information relayed over the police radio indicated that a gun was involved in the disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers observed a male, later identified as 31-year-old Joseph Wilkerson of Baytown, standing in the parking lot with bloody clothing. As officers approached, Wilkerson walked into the backyard of the bar and attempted to close the door on the officers. He was informed that he was being detained for investigation.
While officers were attempting to handcuff Wilkerson, who initially appeared compliant, he suddenly pulled one hand away and struck one of the officers, punching them in the head and causing minor swelling. Wilkerson then punched another officer in the face, resulting in an open tooth fracture and a closed nasal bone fracture. The injured officer was transported to Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital by Baytown EMS. Wilkerson also struck a third officer in the facial area.
Wilkerson continued to actively resist, and during the ensuing physical altercation, officers deployed a Taser, which ultimately allowed them to gain control and compliance. Baytown EMS treated both Wilkerson and the injured officers at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that Wilkerson had been choking a female in the parking lot before being confronted by two other males, leading to a physical altercation. The Harris County ADA accepted the charge of Assault on a Peace Officer and is being held at Harris County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
