Audio Correction: “On a previous date” NOT “the previous day.”
On January 29th at 7p.m., a thirty-one year old Baytown man reported he had been robbed in the 4600 block of Village Lane. Officers learned the victim had purchased a ball python snake from an acquaintance and her boyfriend on a previous date. The boyfriend returned to the victim’s residence on the 29th, and tried to forcibly retrieve the snake from the victim, displaying a handgun. Officers identified the suspect as 22 year old Baytown man Devin Smith and located him in the 2700 block of Ward Road. Smith fled into his apartment and refused to cooperate. Negotiators spent several hours attempting to gain compliance to no avail. SWAT entered the home and discovered Smith was not inside. A warrant for Aggravated Assault was filed and Smith was arrested the following day after turning himself in to police.
