12.30.20 Shooting Incident at Hartz Chicken Wednesday Morning Update: Press Release Added)

Official Baytown Police Press Release: 2020-63507 – Today at 10:56 a.m., Officers were dispatched to Hartz Chicken located in the 300 block of North Alexander in reference to a robbery that had just occurred. While enroute officers were advised the an employee had shot the suspect inside the restaurant. Upon officer arrival officers found the suspect, a 19 year old black male, was suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck and although he was bleeding heavily, he was conscious and alert. During the course of the investigation Detectives learned the suspect had entered the store, attempted to take money from the cashier at gunpoint when he was engaged by another restaurant employee, who was armed with a handgun. That employee fired multiple rounds at the suspect, striking him at least once in the neck. Detectives also determined the suspect’s weapon was actually an airsoft handgun, however it appeared identical to a real handgun. The suspect was subsequently airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital where at last report he was in stable condition and expected to survive. Charges of Aggravated Robbery are pending on the suspect through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
