12.21.20 Two Stories: Police Pursuit and Baytown Blue Santa

Story 1: 2020-61650 – On December 18th at 7:43 p.m., attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 6000 block of Garth however the vehicle failed to pull over. Instead the vehicle fled  from officers leading officers on pursuit that culminated with the vehicle coming to a stop in front of a residence in the 600 block of Harold Lane. Once the suspect vehicle stopped two males, identified as 20 year old Shai-Keem Thomas and 21 year old Ernest Adams, fled from the vehicle and into the residence. Officers involved in the pursuit gave chase on foot after both Thomas and Adams with Adams being apprehended inside the residence after he threw a semi-auto handgun on to the floor. Thomas however, continued to elude officers as he fled on foot north from the location. With the assistance of a Baytown K-9 Unit, officers were able to track and  locate Thomas in the 700 block of Pamela Street where he was taken into custody. During the apprehension of Adams, one of the officers suffered a cut to his left forearm from a broken window, which required stitches. Two teen females were also in the vehicle but were released without charges. Both suspects were transported to the Baytown Jail where Adams was charged with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle, Unlawfully Carrying Weapon and Assault on Police Officer while Thomas was charged with Evading Arrest.

Story 2:

Then on Saturday, December 19, in the midst of a heavy downpour of rain,  Baytown’s Blue Santa caravan traveled the streets of Baytown once again.  Gifts were given to children who anxiously awaited the arrival of Blue Santa.

Baytown Blue Santa is a 501(c)(3) Non-profit program organized by officers and detectives from the Baytown Police Department with support from the Baytown Municipal Police Association. Each year, Baytown Blue Santa provides children of families in need with wrapped Christmas gifts and other needed household items, so that the children in these families can experience the magic and joy of the Christmas season.

Baytown Blue Santa has been providing families of Baytown with assistance since the 1970’s.  This would not be possible without the support and donations from the local community and businesses each year.
