07.06.20 Two Stories: Child Dies in Drowning Accident/Woman Dies After Jumping from Vehicle

Story 1:

Baytown, Texas – Friday, June 30th, 2020 – Baytown Fire Department responded to a reported cardiac arrest at 3717 Emmett Hutton Blvd. Caller advised that there was a child, approximately 2 years old, pulled from the swimming pool and bystanders were performing CPR.

Upon arrival units found bystander CPR in progress on patient with estimated down time of 10 minutes. Responders performed advanced life support measures on scene for 10 minutes before transporting patient to Houston Methodist Baytown. Patient was later pronounced deceased by physicians.

Baytown Fire Department units Medic 5, Medic 7, Battalion 1, EMS 1 and Engine 1 all responded to the location.

Story 2: 2020-32828- On July 5th at 2:48 p.m., officers responded to an auto pedestrian accident at the intersection of West Nazro and Oak Street. Upon arrival officers observed 77 year old Lucrecia Mendoza lying in the roadway with an apparent head injury, however she was conscious, breathing and talking. During the on scene investigation officers learned that the vehicle, which was being driven by Ms. Mendoza’s 57 year old daughter, experienced what was described a break failure, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. Ms. Mendoza advised that she actually jumped from the moving vehicle as her daughter lost control of the vehicle. Ms. Mendoza was subsequently transported by ambulance to Herman Hospital to be treated for her injuries where she unexpectedly succumbed to her injuries. Baytown Police Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating to determine the exact cause of the crash.
