2020-22665 – On May 4th at 4:17 p.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle in the 4500 block of Garth Road. As the officers attempted to conduct the stop, the suspect vehicle pulled into the Wal–Mart parking lot and began to flee form the officer, speeding through the parking lot to the rear of the store, eventually making his way onto Cedar Bayou Lynchburg. The suspect continued fleeing east on Cedar Bayou Lynchburg, crossed North Main at which time the suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the ditch east of North Main. As officers approached the suspect vehicle they observed two males exit the vehicle and flee on foot. The passenger, identified as 31 year old Jay Jefferies of Crosby, was quickly taken into custody however the driver, later identified as 29 year old Corey Simmons of Baytown, was initially able to elude officers. However, after an extensive search of the area Simmons was spotted running towards North Main and was subsequently taken into custody by officers. Jefferies was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was subsequently transported to the Baytown Jail where he was charged with Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, while Simmons was charged with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle. Officers also located a handgun inside the vehicle which was found to be stolen out of Harris County.
