2020-19309 – On April 13th at 12:23 p.m., officers responded to a report of a robbery of an individual in the 300 block of East Hunnicutt. Upon arrival officers contacted the complainant and learned that she had pulled up to her residence and as she exited her vehicle a black male approached her, pointed a handgun at her and demanded her purse. The complainant initially refused to comply at which time the suspect struck her in the face with the handgun, took her purse and got into a white Dodge truck. A few hours later the complainant’s wallet was reported to have been found in the street near Garth Road and Northwood. As officers responded to the found wallet they also noticed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle in this case driving on Northwood. Officers conducted a stop on this vehicle and identified the driver as 34 year old Joshua Minkins of Baytown, who matched the description of the suspect and was wearing the same clothes as the suspect was wearing during the robbery. During a search of the vehicle officers also located items that were taken in the robbery as well as a handgun that matched the description given by the complainant. Minkins was placed under arrest and transported to the Baytown Jail where he was charged with Aggravated Robbery and Felon in Possession of a Firearm through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. 2020-19398 – On April 13th at 10:14 p.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle in the area of Cedar Bayou Lynchburg and Garth Road. The motorcycle refused to stop and instead actively attempted to elude the officer at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle led officers on a chase that would go to Wade Road, to Decker and eventually in the Craigmont subdivision. All the while the rider of the motorcycle, identified as Joseph Newton, was driving erratically at a high rate of speed, driving the wrong way on the northbound lanes of Decker, jumping curbs and would eventually lay the motorcycle over in a driveway of a residence in the 4500 block of Ponderosa, at which time he began to flee on foot. Officers chased after Newton eventually ending up on Sage Street where an officer deployed his department issued Taser, which struck Newton in the torso. This was ineffective, and resulted in Newton continuing to flee on foot until the officer was able to take Newton to the ground in the 4500 block of Sage. Newton would continue to physically resist the officer as the officers struggled to get Newton in custody. A K-9 officer arrived as the officer was struggling with Newton and in an effort to get Newton into custody the officer disengaged from Newton and the K-9 Officer deployed his K-9 after which officers were able to take Newton into custody. Officers would then learn that the motorcycle Newton was riding was actually stolen out of Houston Police Department. Newton was subsequently transported to the Baytown Jail where he was booked on charges of Felony Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle through the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
