03.28.20 Press Release/Shooting and Man Dies at Gas Station

Story 1: PRESS RELEASE Lieutenant Steve Dorris Public Information Officer (281) 420-6617 steve.dorris@baytown.org 2020- 16796 Baytown Police investigating shooting death of 18-year-old Pasadena man On Friday, March 27th at 8:00 p.m., Baytown Police responded to a shooting at the Oasis Gas Station located in the 1600 block of South Business SH 146. Upon arrival, responding officers found 18-year-old Byron Handy of Pasadena, lying in the roadway on Lee Drive, deceased from what appears to be a single gunshot wound. During the course of the investigation, Homicide Detectives learned that upon arriving at the store, Mr. Handy met with a subject, or subjects, in a light colored Tahoe that was parked near the gas pumps. Mr. Handy then walks to the passenger side of the Tahoe and interacted with an occupant of the Tahoe. At one point, the Tahoe speeds away with Mr. Handy hanging on to the passenger side door. As the Tahoe exited the parking lot onto Lee Drive, witnesses describe hearing at least one gun shot before Mr. Handy falls to the ground, where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect vehicle was last seen fleeing north on Lee Drive. As Homicide Detectives continue to investigate this senseless murder, we are asking anyone who may have any information about the case to contact the Baytown Police Department Homicide Unit at 281-420- 7181 or Baytown Crime Stoppers at 281-427-TIPS (8477). Story 2: 2020-16855 – On March 28th at 8:14 a.m., officers were dispatched to the TA Truck Stop located in the 6800 block of Thompson Road in reference to a subject in the bathroom who appeared to be having some type of medical episode.  Upon arrival officers found the victim, a 37 year old Baytown man, unresponsive on the bathroom floor. The 37 year old would be pronounced deceased a short time later by EMS. There were no signs of foul play however, an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
