2019-28886 – On May 17th at 12:56 a.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near Denby Street, however he vehicle failed to stop and in fact accelerated in an apparent attempt to elude police, running stop signs in the process. The suspect vehicle turned south on Pruett Street then into a vacant and unlit field where it continued for a short distance before crashing into a ditch. Once additional officers arrived, officers were able to take the two occupants of the vehicle into custody without further incident. The driver, identified as 28 year old Rome Sumra of Baytown, was transported to the Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital to be checked for any injuries related to the crash. He was ultimately cleared by hospital staff and transported to the Baytown Jail where he was booked for Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle. The passenger, identified as 44 year old Michael Hymes of Baton Rouge La. was transported to the Baytown Jail where he was booked for Public Intoxication. Mug shots attached.
