Update from Baytown Police Department/Press Release: 2019-21697 – On April 14th at 3:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a major accident at the intersection of Hwy 99 and Tri City Beach Road involving two vehicles, a black Ford Fusion occupied by six people and being driven by a 26 year old Highlands man, and a Gray Ford F-250, in which the driver, a 32 year old Anahuac resident, was the sole occupant. During the investigation it was determined that the F-250 was traveling east on Hwy 99 and the Ford Fusion was traveling north on Tri City Beach Road when the two entered the intersection of Hwy 99 and Tri City Beach Road at the same time, causing the F-250 to strike the Ford Fusion on the driver side, the impact of which caused the F-250 to roll at least one time before coming to a rest right side up. The Ford Fusion subsequently struck a pole before coming to a rest. Tragically, two passengers of the Ford Fusion did not survive the crash, they were identified as 43 year old Luis Godinez of Laredo and 68 year old Celina Godinez of Highlands. The remaining occupants of the Ford Fusion were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston to be treated for their injuries while the driver, and sole occupant of the F-250, was transported to Bayshore Hospital to be treated for her injuries. Baytown Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Vehicular Assault Team are investigating to determine the exact cause of the crash. Investigators will be evaluating the blood results from both drivers to determine if either driver was impaired, however at the time of the crash there were no apparent signs of impairment by either driver. The case is still under investigation.
