On Wednesday, February 27th at 3:30 a.m., a Baytown Police officer, while on routine patrol, observed a suspicious vehicle in the 1600 block of Garth Road. The officer made contact with the driver, later identified as Cory Venable, who appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant due to his slurred speech and slow movements. As Cory stepped out of the vehicle, a cigarette containing PCP fell from his hand. The officer gave Cory several direct orders to place his hands behind his but he refused. A struggle ensued and the officer deployed his department issued taser, which had no effect. Eventually, the officer was able to gain control of Cory and placed him in handcuffs. The subject was transported to the Baytown Jail and was taken later taken to the Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital for an induced seizure caused by the PCP.
