“Hoax News Article”
Over the weekend it came to our attention that a fictitious news story was circulating on the
internet that claimed a murder had taken place in the City of Baytown in which a man had been
tortured and killed by his jealous wife. The story claimed the wife used hydrochloric acid to
torture the husband after she incapacitated him, which ultimately led to his death.
This story is a hoax; in fact the photo used in the article is from a crime scene in 2015 that a local
outlet aired during one of their broadcasts. The author of the story, whose name has been
associated with other fictitious news stories in the past, is believed to be fictional along with his
association with any legitimate news outlet. We want to assure our community that no such
crime has taken place in the City of Baytown.
The Baytown Police Department and the City of Baytown strive to keep our community
informed of major events in our community and as such we ask that the community rely on
official releases from the Baytown Police Department or the City of Baytown for information
about crime in the City of Baytown. These official releases are always shared with our local news
outlets as well as posted to the Baytown Police Department and City of Baytown Facebook pages
to ensure our community has easy access to important and up to date information.
