Last night a non-credible threat against Gentry Junior School was made on social media. The Baytown Police Department investigated last night and continues to investigate, but all indications are that this is a hoax. As a precaution, we will have extra police on the campus throughout the day.
Two separate incidents took place in Goose Creek CISD last Thursday that resulted in the arrests of three students. Both incidents resulted in the campuses being placed briefly on lockdown.
Two male students made comments on their social media accounts that were perceived to be threats against Goose Creek Memorial High School. Although not specific in nature, a sophomore student was arrested for his threatening remarks. The second student, a junior, is under investigation. The threats were not related.
At Gentry Junior School, a male 8th grade student brought a loaded handgun to school, which he gave to another 8th grade male student. Upon learning that a classmate was in possession of a gun, several students reported it. The gun was confiscated without incident and both the student who brought the gun and the student in possession of the gun were arrested.
These types of events interrupt instructional time and cause unnecessary fear in our community. We simply cannot tolerate weapons on campus or frightening posts on social media. We are very pleased, however, with the professional manner in which our district’s emergency personnel and our campus administrators managed these unfortunate events.
