2018-53273 – On September 12th 10:16 p.m. Officers observed what was determined to be a stolen vehicle traveling on South Pruett and attempted to conduct a stop of the vehicle, however the driver refused to stop and instead led officers on a short chase. As the suspect vehicle made its way to the area of North Main and Hwy 146 the two occupants of the vehicle, both later determined to be juveniles, bailed out of the car and attempted to flee on foot. Officers, with the help of one of our K-9 Units, quickly apprehended the passenger of the vehicle while other responding officers pursued the driver on foot. As officers were pursuing the driver he at one point turned towards the officers, concealing his hands in his waist and refusing to comply with officers’ commands to show his hands. Fearing the suspect may have a weapon, along with his noncompliance to their commands, one of the officers deployed his department issue Taser which caused the suspect to fall to the ground at which time officers were able to safely take him into custody. Both suspects were juveniles and were subsequently charged, the driver with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle and the passenger with Misdemeanor Evading on Foot .
Both were subsequently transported to Harris County Juvenile Detention.
The vehicle had actually been reported stolen earlier that day, at approx. 7:30 a.m. In that case the victim had stopped at a residence in the 200 block of East Pearce to pick up her child. When she exited the vehicle she had left it running and while she was at the door a black male juvenile riding by on a bike, jumped off his bike and got into her car and drove away. Police are investigating to determine if the subject who got off the bike and stole the car is one of the juveniles arrested after the pursuit.
