2018-51733 – This evening at 7:05 p.m., Baytown Police responded to a welfare concern at the Fischer’s Hardware Store located in the 700 block of North Alexander. Initial report was that a vehicle had fallen on a man in the parking lot of the store. Upon arrival officers found a 57 year old Baytown man deceased under a Ford Explorer in the parking lot. Initial investigation indicates that the man had gone into the store for a few minutes to purchase some light bulbs and other small items. The man then returned to his vehicle and apparently was trying to perform some type of repair to the vehicle, according to witnesses the vehicle was smoking when the man pulled into the parking lot. To make the repairs the man had lifted the vehicle with a hydraulic jack and according to witnesses the man was under the truck, on the driver side behind the front tire, banging on the undercarriage when the Explorer fell off of the jack and on top of him, killing the 57 year old. Detectives are investigating, however at this point there is no indication that it is anything other than a tragic accident. The name of the victim is not being released at this time as Detectives are working to notify the his family.
