Traffic Delays on Interstate 10 @ John Martin due to Major Accident
This morning at approximately 8:30 a.m., one of our officers was removing a mattress
from a lane of traffic on IH-10 westbound @ John Martin when his patrol Tahoe was rear
ended by a one ton Dodge dually towing a car hauler. The officer was not struck but
sustained a knee injury as he fled to safety. His Police Tahoe was launched several
hundred feet away, into the ditch in front of Baytown Hyundai. The officer was able to
walk but is being evaluated at a local medical facility to determine the extent of his
injuries. The driver of the Dodge reported back pain but was otherwise uninjured.
Drivers can expect delays on the west bound side of IH-10 at John Martin as officers
investigate the accident and work to get the vehicles removed from the roadway and the
ditch. As of this message the left lane of the west bound side of IH-10 at John Martin is
open however the right two lanes are closed.
We ask that everyone please be patient and pay attention to the road while driving in the
area.
