2018-33129 – Today at 3:06 p.m., Baytown detectives were driving in the area of the Clint Greenwood Court Annex on West Baker Road when they observed a tan Chevrolet Tahoe pull into the parking lot of the court house and park next to a maroon wrecker that was parked in the parking lot. Detectives noticed the Tahoe park next to the wrecker for a brief moment with the passenger side of the Tahoe next to the wrecker and then drive off. The Tahoe circled the parking lot before returning to the wrecker, this time with the driver side of the Tahoe next to the driver side of the wrecker, stopping extremely close to the wrecker. Detectives recognized this as a possible auto theft in progress and established surveillance of the Tahoe and the wrecker. Detectives observed the driver of the Tahoe exit his vehicle and “punch” the driver side door lock with a screwdriver and get into the wrecker and drive off. The passenger of the Tahoe then climbed into the driver seat of the Tahoe and he too fled the scene. Detectives followed the two vehicles until marked patrol units could arrive in the area at which time they initiated a stop on the Tahoe in the 2900 block of West Baker and took the driver of the Tahoe into custody. Meanwhile the wrecker continued west on Baker, eventually turning onto Quail Hollow and into the Sterling Bay Apartment complex located at 4601 Quail Hollow. The suspect driving the wrecker drove to the back of the complex where he stopped and exited the wrecker and attempted to flee on foot only to be quickly apprehended by detectives. Both suspects were transported to the Baytown Jail and are facing charges of Auto Theft. The wrecker was returned to the owner. Detectives are still investigating the incident. Mug shots not available at this time.
