04.19.18 Three Juveniles Stole Vehicle/One was Accidentally Shot

2018-23119 – On April 19th  at 2:04 p.m., officers responded to the area of Ft. Worth Street in reference to a theft in progress. The caller stated that three juveniles had just stolen some items from the Crazy Dollar Store on North Main and fled in a white Honda Accord. The complainant followed the suspects to the area of Ft. Worth Street where the suspects crashed their vehicle and fled on foot. Officers responding to the area were able to quickly apprehend the three juveniles, ages 14,15 and 15, at which time they discovered one of them was suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen. The injured juvenile was transported to a Houston area hospital to be treated for his injury while the other two were transported to the Baytown Police Department. During the ensuing investigation detectives learned that the Honda Accord was actually stolen out of Harris County and inside the vehicle officers found two handguns. As the investigation unfolded it was learned that in the early hours of this morning the three juveniles burglarized several vehicles in the county. In one of those burglaries they found the keys to the Accord and stole the car, they also found the two handguns during the burglaries and stole them as well. Detectives also learned that today’s events culminated when the three were driving here in Baytown and at some point two of the juveniles were playing with one of the handguns when it went off, striking the one juvenile in the abdomen. The trio then decided to stop at the Crazy Dollar where they supposedly were planning on stealing bandages to render aide to their friend, however the complainant caught them, resulting in them fleeing the store and crashing the car. While being detained one of the juveniles was also found to have in his possession approximately 3 grams of Xanax and 2 grams of marijuana. He was ultimately charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance while the other was charged with Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon. The third juvenile, at last report, was still in the hospital and in stable condition. Detectives are in contact with Harris County Sheriff’s Department regarding the vehicle burglaries and the auto theft as well as the Harris County District Attorneys’ Office to determine what, if any additional charges may be filed on any of the juveniles.
