Domestic disturbance leads to police chase across Houston
On March 22nd at 7:28 a.m., officers responded to a 911 hang up at a residence in the
3400 block of Carriage Lane. As officers were enroute to the residence they were advised
that another 911 call had come in from the same residence and a female was advising she
had been “pistol whipped” by her husband. As officers arrived in the area the suspect was
seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
Officers learned during the investigation that Mr. Brown and the victim, who were
recently married, had been in an argument in the early hours of the morning just after the
victim arrived home from work. During that argument Mr. Brown pulled a handgun and
threatened the victim by pointing the gun at her and pulling the trigger several times,
fortunately the weapon did not fire. After a brief struggle over the gun, which resulted in
the victim’s hands being injured, the victim was able to flee the residence to safety.
As the victim exited the residence, Mr. Brown threatened to harm himself with the gun
and at one point discharged the weapon at least one time, acting as if he had shot himself,
before getting into his vehicle and fleeing. Arriving officers attempted to initiate a stop of
the vehicle, however the driver of the vehicle, identified as 42 year old Eric Brown,
refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit that lasted more than an hour and into the
City of Houston, where it ultimately came to an end on Highway 288 near McGregor
when the suspect came to a stop.
Once the pursuit came to a stop, HPD SWAT took Mr. Brown into custody. It was later
determined that Mr. Brown was not shot after all, however he was transported to Ben
Taub for precautionary evaluation before being returned to the Baytown Jail. The Harris
County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and charges have been accepted on Mr.
Brown for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Felony Evading in a Motor
Vehicle.
I would like to extend our gratitude for the assistance we received during the pursuit by
Officers from Houston Police Department‘s Patrol Division, HPD SWAT, who were
instrumental in taking the suspect into custody, as well as the air support we received
from the Department of Public Safety.
This coordinated effort and the fact it ended with no one injured and the suspect in
custody is a testament to the great working relationship we share with the other agencies
involved as well as their professionalism and commitment to the safety of the citizens of
the City of Baytown, the City of Houston and Harris County.
