01.22.18 Two Charged in Shooting at Watermark Apartments

2018-3812 – On January 20^th at 6:48 a.m., officers responded to a shooting at the Watermark Apartments in the 2700 block of Ward Road. During the course of the investigation officers and detectives learned the victim had arrived at the apartment, apparently to confront his ex-girlfriend after having called her and getting upset with her.  At the same time the suspect(s) along with the ex-girlfriend were leaving their apartment to go get breakfast. Upon seeing the victim in the parking lot the male suspects exited their car with weapons and confronted the victim who had also gotten out of his vehicle. A verbal altercation ensued and two of the suspects, identified as 19 year old Jaden Okeefe and 20 year old Colton Kocsis, both of Baytown, pulled out guns and started shooting at the victim, who was identified as 19 year old Garrett Norwood of Baytown, striking him multiple times.  All suspects were located and detained by responding officers and subsequently interviewed by Detectives, as where several witnesses. As a result of the incident and subsequent investigation Detectives consulted with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury were accepted on both Mr. Okeefe and Mr. Kocsis. The victim was transported by ambulance to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston where he underwent emergency surgery for his injuries and at last report was listed in critical but stable condition.
