Baytown Police seeking public’s help in solving first homicide
of 2018
On January 2nd at 1:38 p.m., Baytown Police responded to The
Providence at Baytown Apartments located in the 1700 block of
James Bowie to check on the welfare of 65 year old John Fernandez.
The caller advised that Mr. Fernandez had not been seen since
Christmas, causing his friends to become concerned.
As officers arrived on the scene, they entered the apartment and
discovered what was believed to be the body of Mr. Fernandez,
deceased inside the apartment.
Homicide Detectives were called to the scene along with Crime
Scene Investigators and Investigators from the Harris County
Institute of Forensic Science. During the initial investigation it was
determined that the body was in fact that of Mr. Fernandez and it
was apparent to Detectives that Mr. Fernandez’s death was the result
of foul play.
While Detectives are currently following up on leads and
conducting interviews in an effort to unravel the last moments of
Mr. Fernandez’s life and the circumstances surrounding his
untimely death, we also ask anyone in the public who may have
