Officer forced to shoot Pit Bull after being viciously attacked
On March 29th, at 11:46 a.m., officers responded to a report of a
robbery at the Dollar General Store located in the 400 block of
North Alexander. Call details advised a male and a female had
shoplifted from the store and the male suspect was on top of a store
employee in the parking lot, assaulting the employee, who had
confronted the suspects.
As officers arrived at the scene the store employee and a citizen had
the male suspect detained, allowing officers to take him into
custody. The female suspect had made her way to their vehicle,
which was parked in the parking lot of the store, and was sitting in
the driver seat.
Officers gave several commands to the female to exit the vehicle;
however she refused to comply. After several more commands the
female opened the driver side door, at which time the suspects’ dog
exited the vehicle and viciously attacked our officer, who was
standing near the driver’s door. The dog bit our officer several times,
most significantly on his arm and hand. Our officer, unable to escape
the dog’s bite to his arm and hand, was forced to discharge his duty
weapon several times at the dog, striking and ultimately
incapacitating the dog.
The female was then taken into custody and other officers on scene
immediately began rendering aide to our injured officer, who was
ultimately transported to a Houston area hospital to be treated for his
injuries. The suspects, identified as 33 year old Kasey Thompson
and 33 year old Dustin McCoy, both of Baytown, are currently in
custody. Robbery charges are pending on both through the Harris
County District Attorney’s Office.
Our officer, identified as Officer Robert Ramlal, is a 9 year veteran
of the Baytown Police Department and is currently assigned to the
Patrol Division. Officer Ramlal, who remains hospitalized, will be
undergoing surgery to repair the significant injuries to his hand.
