Official Press Release From Pct. 8 Constables Office Regarding Fatality on Fred Hartman Bridge on January 6, 2017:

At 4:37 AM this morning, Deputies with Precinct 8 Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office were dispatched to the Fred Hartman Bridge in the 2600 block of State Hwy 146 for a report of a man walking in and out of traffic. Multiple reports were received regarding this incident. The first units arrived on the bridge at 4:43 AM to discover the man had been hit by a vehicle. EMS was dispatched to the scene, but unfortunately it is believed the man was killed on impact.
The Precinct 8 Accident Reconstruction Team was called out to investigate this case. All northbound lanes of the bridge were shut down while the accident scene was being cleared. Two of the four northbound lanes were reopened at 7:08 AM and the remainder of the lanes were reopened at 7:21 AM.
The decedent was identified as a 32 year old white male of Houston. We are not releasing his name at this time pending notification of family. This case remains under investigation and it is currently unknown if the incident was the result of an intentional suicide or a simply a tragic accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the man who died.
