On November 17th at 3:00 pm Baytown Police were patrolling the area in the 5700 block of North State Hwy 146 when the officers observed a 2007 Red Chevrolet pickup traveling North bound in the 5700 block where it failed to maintain the lane in which it was traveling. The officers turned around to follow the pickup truck and continued to observe the truck driving erratically crossing over the lines on the lane in which it was traveling. The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the truck which was later found to be 20 year old Marco Flores, of Baytown.
Flores failed to yield to the officers emergency lights and traveled off of the roadway and into the a ditch in the 6300 block of North State Hwy 146 striking a culvert and going air borne before striking a 1994 Green Nissan pickup truck being occupied by Joseph LaDay, 52 of Baytown. LaDay was leaving a private drive attempting to await traffic to pull onto Hwy 146.
The impact from the collision was fatal and LaDay died at the scene. After the collision Flores attempted to escape from his disabled truck and was apprehended by officers. Flores was not injured in the crash and was transported to the Baytown City jail where he is being charged with intoxication manslaughter through the Chambers County District Attorneys Office.
