The suspect had stolen approximately $500.00 worth of DVD’s from the store and had left in a white box truck, bearing Texas License plate AA0-8360, and was last seen on North Main. Responding officers located the vehicle in the 3400 block of North Main, turning east on Massey Tompkins. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, however the vehicle failed to stop, instead it cut through a yard in the 1300 block of Massey Tompkins in an effort to avoid traffic which was backed up on Massey Tompkins. The vehicle continued to elude police and as it made it to the 6400 block of North State Highway 146 it struck a passenger car from behind. One of the officers stopped to check on the occupants of the passenger car. The occupants of this vehicle were treated by EMS at the scene and released. Officers were able to deploy spike strips in an effort to disable the vehicle by deflating its tires. The spike strips did in fact deflate one of the tires on the suspect vehicle however the vehicle continued to flee. Ultimately the vehicle came to a stop in a trailer park located in the 4900 block of Riverview Drive in Dayton. The driver was placed under arrest and identified as 40 year old Samuel Garza of Dayton. Mr. Garza was transported to the Baytown Jail, where he was ultimately charged with Felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, as officers learned through the investigation that Mr. Garza did not have permission from the owner to have the vehicle.
