2016-61243 Homicide/Officer involved shooting On October 30th at 5:47 p.m., officers responded to a burglary in progress at 1903 Mississippi. The caller advised that there was an intruder inside the residence who had a gun. The caller also asked for police to hurry, then hung up. As officers arrived at the scene they observed a female exit the residence, being followed by a male. As the two exited the residence, the male displayed a handgun and fired several times at the female, striking and killing her. One of the responding officers immediately returned fire, grazing the male, who then surrendered and was taken into custody. During the investigation detectives learned that the intruder was actually 39 year old El Rey Gonzalez, the estranged husband of the victim, identified as 41 year old Elva Gonzalez, both of Baytown. Detectives also learned that two of Ms. Gonzalez’s children were inside the residence at the time of the incident, a 16 year old female and a 21 year old male, both were unharmed. This case is being investigated by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Baytown Police Department Homicide Unit and Baytown Police Department Internal Affairs Division. Mr. Gonzalez was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released. He is now in custody in the Baytown Municipal Jail and Murder charges are pending.
