2016-60758 – On October 28th at 1:48 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Ward Road in reference to a shots fired call. upon arrival in the area officers contacted the complainant who advised he was pulling out of the apartment complex located at 1505 Ward Road when a tan colored SUV, occupied by at least two people, passed him and a the front seat passenger, who was described as a white male with a goatee, fired a handgun at him. The complainant pulled back into the complex and found his front driver side tire was flat. While examining the complainants car officers noticed what appeared to be bullet impacts near the tire. Officers were unable to locate a suspect or any other evidence at the time and cleared the call. Later, at approximately 4:58 a.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Silver Jeep Grand Cherokee, bearing Texas License Plate CW1-C847, in the area of Lanier and J.B. Lafevre, case 2016-60781. The vehicle matched the description of the suspect vehicle in the deadly conduct. The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle, which was occupied by four people, continued fleeing from officers for approximately six minute, traveling through neighborhoods from the area of East Texas and Danubina to the North Main and East James area. The vehicle ultimately came to a stop and the occupants exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. One of the subjects, 18 year old Mario Hurtado, was apprehended by officers as he attempted to hide behind an air conditioning unit. Mr. Hurtado was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a handgun. The other three occupants of the vehicle were not apprehended. During the investigation it was learned that there were additional handguns in the vehicle as well as property that linked the subjects to a burglary of a motor vehicle which had occurred earlier, case 2016-60785. Mr. Hurtado was transported to the Baytown Municipal Jail where he was charged with misdemeanor evading arrest and unlawful carrying a weapon. Detectives are investigating to determine the identity of the other three subjects and the possibility of charges related to the burglary of a motor vehicle. Mr. Hurtado’s mug shot is attached.
