On Friday, September 2nd at 4:10 a.m., Baytown Police Officers responded to a major accident in the 8800 block of N. State Highway 146. The officer arrived on scene and observed 29 year-old Jessica Smith laying face-up and unresponsive on the highway. EMS was already on scene and providing medical attention to the victim.
The operator of the vehicle told police that he was driving southbound on the highway and prior to switching lanes, he turned his head to ensure no cars were in his blind spot. When he turned his head back around, he saw the victim on the highway and attempted to stop his vehicle but could not do so prior to striking her.
The victim was life-flighted to Memorial-Hermann hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her family has been notified.
No charges are being filed against the driver at this time. The case is still under investigation.
