newqFrom Lt. Eric Free/Baytown Police Department: This morning at 10:22 a.m., an elderly woman sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the 4900 block of Eastchase in Baytown. A preliminary investigation shows the victim and her dog were attending a K9 training program that is regularly held in a nearby field on the weekends. She was standing in the roadway at the rear of a van, which was the last car parked in a line of vehicles on the side of the road, when she was struck from behind by an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe. Her dog was not injured and is in the care of a guardian. The victim was flown to Memorial Hermann hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Tahoe, a 38 year old Cleveland, TX man, is being treated at Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital for minor injuries. There were no apparent signs of intoxication at the scene of the crash. This ongoing investigation is being led by officers trained in accident reconstruction.
