On October 13th at 11:41 a.m., officers responded to Rosemont Apartments located in the 6000 block of Garth Road for a welfare concern. Upon arrival they discovered 54 year old Victor Ayala had been stabbed to death inside his residence. A preliminary investigation showed Ayala had been killed several days before he was discovered. The investigation also revealed 28 year old Raymond Joseph Riley was in possession of the victim’s red 2007 Mercedes C230. The Mercedes was recovered later that evening after Houston firefighters responded to a car fire in the Wal-Mart parking lot located in the 2300 block of S Wayside in Houston. At midnight, Baytown Special Operations detectives located Raymond Riley in a room at the Houston Inn Suites motel located in the 2200 block of S Wayside Drive in Houston. Raymond refused to cooperate with detectives or exit his hotel room. Houston Police SWAT was summoned to the motel and arrested Raymond without incident after a three hour standoff. Raymond was transported to the Baytown municipal jail where he was booked on a pocket warrant for Murder. On the evening of October 14th, Riley was formally charged with Capital Murder and transferred to the Harris County Jail. The murder of Victor Ayala was enhanced to a Capital crime as detectives have evidence it occurred during the commission of a robbery. I am reserving further details on this case as it is now in the hands of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Raymond’s mug shot is attached
