05.07.20 Child Falls from Moving Vehicle/Auto Pedestrian Fatality (Update: Press Releases Added)


2020-23077
 – On May 6th officers responded to the I-10 east bound feeder road and Hwy 146 to meet with DPS who was out on a vehicle from which a  child had fallen out of. Upon arrival officers learned that the vehicle was traveling north on Hwy 146, turning onto the eastbound feeder road when the back driver side door opened up and a child fell out. The child, a 4 year old female, suffered scratches to her face and bump on her head and was subsequently checked and cleared by EMS. During the investigation officers learned that the child, who was not secured in a child safety seat, had managed to open the back driver’s side door as the mother was turning onto the feeder road and fell out of the vehicle. The mother was cited for not having the child in a car seat and No valid Driver’s License.  

2020-23096 – On May 6th at 5:03 a.m., officers responded to a fatal auto pedestrian accident in the 8700 block of North State Highway 146. Upon arrival officers learned that a 49 year old white male was attempting to cross Hwy 146 on foot when he was struck by a tractor trailer. The 49 year old was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS. The driver of the tractor trailer stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation and there were no signs of impairment on the part of the driver. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. While the Baytown Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit is working to reconstruct the accident, charges are not anticipated in this case.

Two incident occurred with close proximity of each other on Highway 146.

In our first story a four-year-old child fell out of a moving car on Wednesday afternoon, May 6. The mother and driver of the vehicle was not aware the child had fallen from the moving car, but did return to the scene upon discovery and shortly after it happened. Shortly before 5 am this morning, Thursday, May 7, an auto pedestrian accident occurred in the 8700 block of Highway 146.  The male pedestrian was struck by an 18-wheeler and he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.  Check back for the official press release.
